What began as an innocuous response to an invitation for an invited review quickly turned into a nightmare of unexpected invoices and a glaring absence of peer review.

In the realm of academic peer review, the concept of double-blind peer review stands as a cornerstone for impartial evaluation. In single-blind peer review, a common approach, authors remain unaware of the identities of the reviewers, while the reviewers possess knowledge of the authors' identities. Conversely, double-blind peer review introduces an additional layer of anonymity, where neither authors nor reviewers are privy to each other's names or affiliations.

Upon conducting a routine check for redundant publications, the editors of our journal were alarmed to discover two strikingly similar articles authored by the same individual. Despite differences in disease focus, the abstracts exhibited significant overlap in wording, prompting further investigation.
A challenging scenario unfolds as the Editor-in-Chief of a journal encounters resistance from a corresponding author regarding proposed editorial edits to a brief communication. Despite the recommendation for acceptance with revisions by the section editor, the corresponding author contends that the suggested edits extend beyond typical formatting adjustments, advocating for postponing publication until the next editor-in-chief assumes office. Complicating matters further, the current Editor-in-Chief opts not to renew their contract amidst anonymous allegations regarding prolonged journal timelines.
