The Estonian Police and Border Guard Board (PPA) have received the prestigious Europol Excellence Award in Innovation for their groundbreaking innovation, the Drug Hunter Analyzer. This remarkable solution has revolutionized drug testing by enabling on-site measurement of drug quantities in oral fluids, even in cases involving multiple drugs. Furthermore, it can distinguish the severity of potential intoxication resulting from drug use.

Europol, in a press release, highlighted the exceptional achievement of the Estonian PPA in winning the 2023 award for the Best Innovative Technical Solution, acknowledging the development and successful implementation of the Drug Hunter Analyzer. By harnessing advanced technologies, ensuring portability, and addressing regulatory requirements, this innovation has the potential to transform drug testing practices and enhance public safety.

In the third edition of these esteemed awards, the Dutch Police and the French National Gendarmerie were also recognized for their remarkable contributions. The Dutch Police were acknowledged for their initiatives in ethics, while the French National Gendarmerie received recognition for their work in promoting diversity and inclusion.

The panel of judges, which included European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson, police chiefs from Spain, Belgium, and Hungary, and Europol's Executive Director Catherine De Bolle, carefully selected the winners.

The Europol Excellence Awards in Innovation underscore the critical role of collaboration and partnership in modern law enforcement. Whether it's cooperation between teams of officers, different law enforcement agencies, or broader public sector involvement, effective policing relies on innovative, committed, and well-trained personnel who use technology efficiently and effectively.
